Insurance Premium Payment Guide (English)
National Health Insurance is a system that all residents living in Japan must join, except those who are enrolled in an employee health insurance plan, the Late-Stage Elderly Medical Care System, or those receiving public assistance. In return for paying insurance premiums, National Health Insurance members can receive medical care by paying only 30% of the cost (20% in some cases).
Insurance premiums can be paid at banks, convenience stores, or through smartphone payment services (such as PayPay). To avoid missing payments, automatic bank account transfer is recommended. If you bring the cash card (ATM card) for one of the following financial institutions to city hall, you can register on the spot:
Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, Ikeda Senshu Bank, Mizuho Bank, Mitsubishi UFJ Bank, Resona Bank, Kiyo Bank, Osaka Shinkin Bank, Japan Post Bank, Kansai Mirai Bank, or Izumino Agricultural Cooperative.
If a payment is not made by the due date, a payment demand notice will be sent and you will be charged a handling fee.
If you receive this document, Kindly process the payment without delay.
If the payment is still not made, you may be charged late fees, you may receive phone calls from city hall, or you may receive a payment reminder.

If the premium remains unpaid, you may be required to pay 100% of your medical expenses, and your salary or bank account may be subject to seizure.
To avoid this, if you are having difficulty paying the insurance premiums, please do not ignore the notice and consult with city hall as soon as possible.
The National Health Insurance system is supported by the insurance premiums paid by all members, which help cover medical expenses for everyone. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
